Challenge

Build a secure and easy-to-use application for Prudential's Retirement Income Calculator.

Exploration

Working with Prudential's internal development organization, we were challenged to build a compelling retirement income calculator mobile application across all three dominant mobile platforms (iOS, Android, BlackBerry).

Solution

For both maintenance and updating of the tool, we implemented a flexible hybrid solution, which allowed for expedited development across all platforms. A thin native client exists in the iOS App Store, Android Market and BlackBerry App World and this downloadable local application pulls from a single, modifiable web-based solution that serves a device-specific app user interface based on platform detection. All of the advanced calculations for the tool exist in the third component, which sits securely behind the Prudential firewall.
