Challenge
Conceive and launch a new youth-focused brand and platform for Benjamin Moore Paint.
Exploration
We were approached by Benjamin Moore to help create a brand new product line from the ground up, geared toward the youth market: high school, college-age, and recently graduated students. Our responsibilities were to creatively think through identity and brand creation, as well as architect, design, and develop their online system from user-facing functionality to inventory and fulfillment management.
Solution
As this project was conceived well in advance of the iPad's existence, this system featured an AS3 dynamic Flash front-end, which provided a compelling user experience through tools like a color recommendation widget that determined user color preferences by asking targeted questions about what types of music, movies, and fashion they were interested in. It also included an interactive room painting exercise, and options to create supply kits. On the back-end, the system allowed users to purchase paints and supplies, and manage color pigment levels and supply inventory. The back-end integrated with UPS services, and managed orders and finances through a custom-built authorize.net integration. This completely self-contained system allowed Benjamin Moore to use Bungaloo as a test bed for future youth-based marketing concepts and eventually yielded its successor, Ben.
